Beaches In Nantucket: The Perfect Seaside Island Escape

Rugged and pristine. Sweeping and spectacular. Just a few ways to describe the picturesque beauty of New England's favorite waterfront playground. Bicycle or stroll to the easily accessible north shore beaches close to Nantucket Town, where families collect seashells and build lifetime memories alongside sand castles. Or adventure further afield to the island's south and east shores, where big surf, strong current and shifting dunes present endless photo ops and a chance to explore the treasures washed ashore by rolling waves. No matter which you choose, a day of postcard-perfect fun awaits on some of the most beautiful stretches of sand.

FAQs

  • Can I bring my dog? What are Nantucket's beach rules?

If your dog loves the beach as much as you do, then Nantucket Beaches are the ideal destination. Your four-legged friend is even welcome on all the shuttle buses (but not on the seats)! Leashed dogs are welcome on a large number of the island's beaches on both the calm north shore and wilder south and east shores. During high season (Apr. 1 - Aug. 31), dogs are only permitted before 9:00 a.m. and after 5:00 p.m. on all designated lifeguard areas. Dogs (and their owners) are never permitted within dune vegetation, protected wildlife areas, marsh grass or other fenced-off areas.
  • What are some of the most popular Nantucket beaches?

The diversity of Nantucket means there is a beach that is perfect for everyone. Surfside Beach is Nantucket's most popular stretch of sand, where surfers and fishermen alike enjoy big waves and a wide beach. Families with young children love the calm conditions found at Children's Beach, where gentle waves lap at pristine sand, perfect for kids of all ages. Teens and college students love Nobadeer Beach, where the wide beach and big waves beckon surfers. And anyone with a camera loves to visit Brant Point Beach, where a scenic beach and picturesque lighthouse frame sailboats and trawlers as they travel through the harbor.
