Family Fun on Nantucket IslandNantucket Island offers a wide variety of fun and exciting activities for the whole family. Go hunting for sea shells, head for the waves with your boogey board, or soak in the sun. With over 80 miles of beaches to explore, Nantucket Island provides the perfect setting. Families with younger children will prefer the lower surf found at Children's Beach and Jetties Beach, as well as the bathrooms, concession stands,
and playgrounds. You'll find a number of maritime activities on Nantucket, including kayaking, sailing, windsurfing, and more. Rent a charter boat and guide for a family fishing-boating expedition. Enjoy a whale watching or seal cruise with Shear Water Excursions, or take part in their kid-friendly ice cream cruise. Kids will also enjoy the pirate-themed cruises offered by Endeavor Sailing.
Discover Natural BeautyWith picturesque landscapes, pristine waters, and an abundance of wildlife, Nantucket is a nature lover's dream. Go bird watching or take a wildflower walk with the members of the Maria Mitchell Association. Nantucket offers a number of natural history related tours to help your family discover the bounties of nature. Nantucket features more than a dozen museums—some with special exhibits for children. The Whaling Museum offers various family workshops focused on music, art, and history. They also boast a number of children's programs and a discovery room that's perfect for hands-on activities. Grab the family, pack a picnic basket, and explore Nantucket's beautiful landscape by bicycle. The island features over twenty miles of paved bicycle paths, ranging from just under a mile up to eight miles in length. Many of our properties feature complimentary bicycle rentals. A Night OutHow about dinner and a movie with the kids? Nantucket's new Dreamland Theater provides fun for the entire family with children's theater and films along with year-round movies. Nantucket Town's Starlight Theatre & Café features a varied menu, full-service bar, and a 90-person theater with regular screenings of family friendly films. You could also pack a picnic dinner and head to Children's Beach on Friday at dusk to enjoy a free G-rated movie with the family.
Kids Camps & ClassesNantucket offers a number of children's camp programs, including full-day camps, specialized camps, and individual classes for music, nature, sports, arts, and more. The Nantucket Historical Association has a program that shows kids what it was like to grow up on Nantucket 200 years ago, while Maria Mitchell Association offers classes that teach children about Nantucket's Native plants and animals. For budding artists, Nantucket Parks & Recreation sponsors free tie-dying clinics every Friday from noon to 1:30 pm through the summer.
